but if you never try you'll never know just what you're worth
What music was used while fat Monica danced, during the end credits?
Some people may not recognize this scene, because it wasn't present when the episode first aired, nor is it on the DVDs. The scene is found in two places, although different music is used each time. One of the scenes:
In the initial airing and on DVD, both parts of the 2-part episode were presented as one hour-long episode with credits only after part 2. In syndication (reruns), where they only do one 30-minute episode at a time, there are credits at the end of part 1, and this scene was used during those credits. The music here contains lyrics that seem to be saying "Do the Saturday Night, if the beat's alright."
There is information on YouTube claiming that this song is called "Saturday Night" and is performed by Java, featuring Bolingo, but no one seems to be citing an actual source of that information. So far this has been impossible to verify... and could be fraudulent info. It is often accompanied by the "convenient" claim that this song (or this version of the song) was never released to the public. So how would anyone have come up with the answer in the first place? I can imagine ways, but my point is: No one is explaining enough details to consider this information reliable.
There are some "longer" clips of this that can be found on the internet, too, but those are all just copies from the Friends clip, remixed to make it seem longer.
Someone on YouTube posted an alleged quote from Warner Bros saying that the song was just production library music, not available to the public. I don't know if that quote is legitimate; it probably is, because most of the 'unidentifiable' music used in Friends comes from either generic, unreleased music libraries at WB, or from custom-made music libraries put together by Michael Skloff, the show's music composer. Please note that even if that quote really came from someone at Warner Bros, neither the name of the song nor it's creator were identified in that quote.
If anyone can find real evidence of this music which I can independently verify, please send me that evidence. Otherwise I'm sticking to this story: The identity of the music has not been confirmed, but it's most likely just music from a production music library.
The other place you can find this scene:
This was also shown during the Friend bloopers and outtakes special that aired in the US in February, 2001, hosted by Conan O'Brien. But in that instance, a different song was used: Shake Your Groove Thing, by "Peaches and Herb."
